Maxim was at the heart of the recent Taste of Kent Awards, celebrating the best of the county’s food and drink.
The 2008 awards ceremony was held at a black tie gala evening at Leeds Castle, near Maidstone, on February 26 as the culmination of a lot of hard work behind the scenes. The awards are the brainchild of the county’s food and drink champions, Produced in Kent, and supported by Kent County Council and Hadlow College, along with the backing of award sponsors.
The campaign to spread awareness of buying locally produced food generated a great deal of interest, shown in record levels of voting for nominees by shoppers – which was 42 per cent up on last year’s voting numbers.
There were 13 categories in the awards and the panel of expert judges were faced with the challenge of whittling down the nominations to one winner in each.
Winners came from across Kent and included Cliftonville Farmers’ Market, the Little Stour Farm Shop, at Wingham, The Ramsgate Brewery’s Gadd No 3 beer and the Mulberry Tree restaurant, at Boughton Monchelsea.
Maxim director, Andrew Metcalf who attended the awards ceremony with account director Delphine Houlton, said: “The Taste of Kent Awards are a great opportunity to recognise the hard work of the county’s food and drink producers and to celebrate the sheer quality of what’s available to us, the consumer.
“We were proud to deliver the PR campaign and to be a sponsor for the first time, presenting the award for Kent’s best wine to Chapel Down Winery near Tenterden for their Chapel Down English rose.”
