One of Kent’s most influential bodies, the Institute of Directors (IoD) has appointed its first ever vice chairman, Andrew Metcalf, director of Maxim PR, to its executive committee.
Andrew is a co-founder of Maxim PR, an integrated media relations company based in Tunbridge Wells with a portfolio of clients including Business Link, Clydesdale Bank, Eon and the University of Greenwich. Maxim is currently involved in supporting the construction of the world’s largest wind farm, London Array, ten miles off the north Kent coast through media and community relations.
Fellow IoD member, Jules Quested-Williams, director of Built for Marketing, has been elected the branch’s events chairman.
Jules has been a member of the IoD for five years and specialises in sales and marketing. She set up her own business, Built for Marketing, in Staplehurst, last autumn working mainly in the built environment sector.
The new appointments replace Peter Reeves, of Arena Pursuits, the former events chairman, and Philip Jones, director of Maxim PR, who stands down from the executive committee.
Reflecting on the key issues facing Kent business, Andrew said: “Life would be so much easier if businesses learnt that they should be working in co-operation with each other, rather than in competition against each other.
“We need to shout more about the quality of businesses in the county and persuade local firms and public sector that they can get professional services on a par with those offered in London, at more competitive rates. It’s about getting Kent businesses to buy from Kent businesses.”
Jules said of her new role: “I’m a great believer in networking as the key to success and will be planning events that get people together. Our business breakfasts continue to be popular and many of the forums we are running, which are very useful, now have a waiting list of people.
“We’ve got great plans for this year’s IoD sporting dinner and are working with Kent County Council on an Olympian theme with a few surprises for diners.”
Frazer Thompson, Chairman of the IoD in Kent, said; “Andrew will bring his energy, drive and passion to the committee and to the role. A successful local business leader, Andrew will help us develop a robust strategy to communicate and deliver the benefits of the IoD and of doing business in Kent."
He added: "Jules has the creativity, determination and skills to help us create memorable quality events that will refresh our members across the county as only the IoD can do. Jules is a natural successor to follow the excellence established by Peter Reeves and his committee over the last six years." |
