Southeastern - Keeping On Track with stakeholders

Keeping engagement moving

The brief

  • To provide additional stakeholder support to the communications team at Southeastern, which operates one of the most complex passenger rail services in the world.

Results and highlights

  • With such a high visibility and, given the size of the organisation, Southeastern called upon Maxim to join its in-house team and maintain its strong relations with key stakeholders.

  • Maxim developed the On Track newsletter to help communicate the latest news to stakeholders.

  • Editorially On Track highlights Southeastern’s role in supporting the economy of Kent, East Sussex and South East London by carrying more than 260,000 passengers an hour during peak periods, with more than 1.75m a week passing through its 180 stations on 1,786 daily services.

  • A key focus of On Track is how Southeastern is improving the passenger experience and satisfaction by investing in its fleet and through the combined efforts of its 4,350 employees and partners at Network Rail.

  • On Track has successfully highlighted the work of Southeastern on important issues such as disability access, smart ticketing, station upgrades and adoption of onboard technologies, such as WiFi. Maxim is responsible for the content, design, print management and distribution to the constantly updated stakeholder list.

  • The work has also involved assisting Southeastern to engage with the area’s 34 MPs as well as councillors and business organisations across its network. This has seen Maxim providing support for MP engagement events at the House of Commons.

  • It has been announced that the Department for Transport (DfT) has granted Southeastern a new Direct Award Contract to continue the South East rail franchise. The contract will run from 1 April 2020 until 16 October 2021, with the option to extend it at the DfT’s discretion until March 2022.
