Launch of Go Cycle Kent

30 March 2007

One of the county’s objectives behind securing the visit of the Tour de France to Kent back in 2007 was to get residents out on their bikes and showcase the county as a two-wheeled tourist destination.

The result was Go Cycle Kent, an initiative run by Kent County Council and its partnership body Kent Tourism (forerunner to Visit Kent). Unable to use the Tour de France branding, a logo was developed, and maps, routes and a programme of cycling events was launched ahead of the Tour’s visit later that year in July.

Then KCC Cabinet Member for Economic Development (now Leader) Cllr Roger Gough, was game to get on his bike for the launch, ably assisted by BBC presenter Kaddy Lee-Preston.
