Marking major milestones in the construction programmes of new buildings is a great opportunity to secure media coverage – and highlight investment.
One such occasion was the ‘topping out’ ceremony of Kent Institute of Medicine & Surgery (KIMS), a £95m state-of-the-art hospital designed to transform acute and specialist health provision in the county.
Having completed the external structural work of the first phase of the hospital, VINCI Construction UK, the main contractors, hosted the ceremony, placing an evergreen tree sapling under the roof to symbolise new beginnings and good fortune.
The following year Maxim also helped arrange the official opening of the independent, clinician-led hospital by HRH The Duke of Gloucester, during a visit to Maidstone.
Today, the 300 clinical staff at KIMS provide high quality complex procedures and acute care in areas such as cardiology, cardiac surgery, neurology, neurosurgery, complex orthopaedics and surgical oncology. In fact, our MD Andrew Metcalf experienced first-hand what KIMS does when he had a partial knee replacement – in and out on the same day.
