Andrew helps give Kent business a stronger voice

February, 2020

Maxim director Andrew Metcalf has been reappointed to the board of the Kent & Medway Economic Partnership (KMEP) to represent the county’s business community.

While the role of KMEP might appear very complex to the outside observer, to Andrew it’s the continuation of many years of experience working in the county’s economic development arena and with major investment projects.

KMEP is business-led and brings together political representatives from Kent County Council, Medway Council and the other district/borough councils, and business leaders, to help identify the priorities for Government spending to support the area’s economy.

It is one of four local partnerships under a federated model, that makes up the South East Local Enterprise Partnership (SELEP). Covering Kent, Essex, East Sussex, plus the unitary authorities of Thurrock, Southend and Medway, SELEP’s work impacts on the day-to-day lives of 4.2m people and almost 167,000 businesses.

Thanks to its success in three rounds of the Local Growth Fund, SELEP has secured a total of £570m, plus £155m of European Regional Development Fund support, to help unlock economic growth and boost skills in our towns, rural and coastal communities.

In his role as a board member, Andrew will provide a business voice on key decisions impacting upon the economy of Kent and Medway and help put the case for investment in its infrastructure, new housing and business support to strengthen the economy.

Commenting on his reappointment, Andrew said: “It is great to be able to continue to promote a positive and sustainable development agenda, and support game changing projects such as the proposed new Lower Thames Crossing, the extension of Crossrail to Ebbsfleet, and many other important schemes.”

Andrew also sits on the county’s Business Advisory Board which reports to KMEP, and he is also a board director of the Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce.
