Erica Jones, an account manager at Tunbridge Wells PR and marketing agency Maxim, is asking for sponsorship in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support, to encourage her through her gruelling training ahead of the London Marathon.
The 40-year-old is almost 75 per cent of the way towards her fundraising target and is now asking for help to reach her goal and spur her on in her training ahead of the 26.2-mile run.
Erica said: “Macmillan Cancer Support helps people through what can be a very difficult time. It’s a privilege to be able to raise money and awareness for an organisation that has made a difference to so many people, including me, my family and friends, however my fundraising has stalled at just below 75 per cent of my target.
“With six weeks to go until the big day I’d really appreciate it if people could donate a few pounds to this vital cause. Every donation makes a huge difference to both the charity and to my determination when training.”
Erica’s training began at the start of the year, and includes twice-weekly running commutes home from work, followed by a long run at the weekend. Her current achievement is to have covered a distance almost equivalent to running from Ashford to Canterbury, with her next milestone comparable to the journey from Tunbridge Wells to Maidstone – and beyond.
Philip Jones, Director at Maxim, added: “When she joined Maxim in 2013, Erica would be out of breath from her 20-minute walk to work. It’s been remarkable to see her transformation as she’s gone from walking to running and we’re all impressed by her determination to use her new-found fitness to make a difference to others.”
Erica’s fundraising target is £3,000 and she aims to complete the course in around five and a half hours.
