Cathy Newman to host Kent Press & Broadcast Awards

February, 2016

Journalist and broadcaster Cathy Newman will host this year’s Kent Press & Broadcast Awards ceremony in July 2016.

Currently one of Channel 4 News’ main studio presenters, Cathy regularly writes for the Telegraph and has extensive experience in print media.

Now in its second year, the Kent Press & Broadcast Awards is organised by Tunbridge Wells-based PR and marketing agency Maxim. Designed to celebrate and reward regional and local journalism, there are 14 categories covering print, broadcast, digital, social media and design.

Cathy Newman said: “I started my journalistic career doing work experience on the North Devon Journal, so right from the start I had a keen awareness of the importance of local journalists in the media ecology. So I'm honoured to be presenting these awards for the crème de la crème of today's local journalists.”

Prior to arriving at Channel 4 News, Cathy worked as chief political correspondent for the Financial Times for three years. Before that she covered politics and media for the FT, which she joined from the Independent where she was media business correspondent.

Philip Jones, director at Maxim, commented: “Securing a host experienced in the industry adds a certain gravitas to the ceremony so we’re delighted that Cathy will be joining us for the ceremony at The Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence, in July.

“We’ve been working very hard behind the scenes to secure support for the scheme and are pleased to announce we have 14 organisations on board. The Kent business community has really pulled together to pledge their support for local journalism.”

Supporting the Kent Press & Broadcast Awards are: Arriva Southern Counties, sponsor of Kent Columnist of the Year; Barretts Motor Group, sponsor of Kent Broadcast Journalist of the Year; Benenden Hospital Trust, sponsor of Kent Print Journalist of the Year; Clague Architects, sponsor of Magazine Design/er of the Year; Digitom Ltd, sponsor of Kent Digital Journalist of the Year; East Kent College, sponsor of Press Photographer of the Year; Eurotunnel, sponsor of Best Use of Social Media; Kent Cricket, supporter of Kent Sports Journalist of the Year; Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce, sponsor of Campaign of the Year; Lightmaker, sponsor of Newspaper Design/er of the Year; P&O Ferries, sponsor of Kent Young Journalist of the Year; Port of Dover, sponsor of Kent Magazine of the Year
