Erica is now certified carbon literate

March, 2025

Understanding and minimising our impact on the environment is important for everyone, and Maxim is now in a better position to address this thanks to training carried out by one of the team.

Account Director Erica Jones has achieved carbon literacy certification, having completed a course to improve her awareness of climate change and the environmental impact of her everyday actions for the purposes of the workplace, education and community.

Erica said: “Having spent years reminding everyone to recycle paper and think before they print, it means a lot to me to have improved my understanding of this very complicated and important topic by completing carbon literacy certification.

“The training helped me to understand my activities beyond simply recycling, meaning I am now more knowledgeable about the ramifications of the decisions I make and the advice I give to clients. For instance, sourcing renewable or recycled products and supporting ESG activity.”

Certification involved participation in two online workshops that addressed the global impacts of climate change and the individual actions people and businesses can take to reduce their emissions. It was concluded with Erica completing a series of personal and business pledges for the benefit of the environment.

These pledges included re-thinking travel decisions to take the train or meet remotely; a change in buying habits for the office, clients and personally; and more environmentally friendly email practices such as smaller attachments and reduced cc’ing.

Erica added: “We all have a basic understanding of recycling, but as individuals we still buy the quick drink in a single-use cup. These workshops helped confirm to me why it’s important to make more sustainable decisions, and learning alongside other businesses was a good opportunity to discuss those decisions and share the individual experiences that can lead to collective change.”

The training was carried out by Grain Sustainability, as part of Maxim’s involvement in Amplifi, the Tunbridge Wells business collective which brings organisations together to tackle the climate emergency.
